NYCOS 30th Anniversary Gala Concert:
Carmina Burana

Join the National Youth Choir of Scotland for a landmark 30th anniversary celebration alongside the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.

Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana is one of the most recognisable choral works ever written. Composed in 1935–36, it sets 24 medieval poems exploring fate, springtime, love, and the unpredictability of life. With its driving rhythms, powerful choral writing and vivid orchestral colour, it remains a work of extraordinary immediacy, framed by the world‑famous O Fortuna.

The programme also includes the world premiere of The World by Jay Capperauld, with text by Robert Louis Stevenson and Niall Campbell, written especially to mark NYCOS’ 30th anniversary. Jonathan Dove’s The Passing of the Year is heard in its new orchestrated version for the first time in Scotland, completing a programme that reflects both celebration and renewal.

Performed by one hundred and forty of Scotland’s finest young singers alongside the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, this special concert marks an important moment in NYCOS’ history.
