Celebrate the beauty of nature through sound in Dawn Chorus, a breathtaking new concerto by Emmy-nominated Scottish composer Erland Cooper, that receives its world premiere performance with violinist Freya Goldmark. Inspired by Sir David Attenborough’s extraordinary legacy in his 100th birthday year, Cooper — hailed by The Guardian as “nature’s songwriter” — weaves the evocative songs of birds and the rhythms of life into a musical tribute to the natural world.

The concert also features classical music curated by Cooper, including Vaughan Williams’s evergreen masterpiece ‘The Lark Ascending’ and the world premiere of ‘Sula Bassana’, his “epic” (The Scotsman) symphonic meditation on the natural world. Taking its title from the Northern Gannet, the work draws its central imagery from the Bass Rock off North Berwick, weaving the seabird colony’s grandeur into a portrait of the Firth of Forth’s Air, Sea and Land.
